Indo Swiss Training Centre (ISTC) was established in the year 1963 in collaboration with the Swiss Foundation for Technical Assistance, Switzerland. ISTC was formally inaugurated on 18 the December 1963 by the first Prime Minister, Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru.
Established under the patronage of Swiss Foundation it is being run under the aegis of Central Scientific Instruments Organization (CSIO), Chandigarh, a constituent laboratory of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), New Delhi.

Admissions of ISTC:
Admission to the Indo-Swiss Training Centre is through an all-India entrance test open to both boys and girls held in July every year. The test is a multiple- choice type question paper. Results are declared within 10 days.
Eligibility:
Admission is open to both boys and girls who have passed their matriculation examination (refer Para 4.3 below)
Selection:
Selection is on the basis of merit in the ISTC Entrance Test conducted at Chandigarh.
- Total number of seats is 140
- 4-Year Advanced Diploma in Die & Mould Making(16 Seats)
- 4-Year Advanced Diploma in Mechatronics & Industrial Automation(16 Seats)
- 3-Year Diploma in Electronics Engineering(54 Seats) and 3-Year Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (Tool & Die)(54 Seats)]
- out of which 27% are reserved for OBC
- 15% for SC and 7.5% for ST candidates.
- Vacant seats of appropriate categories will be filled as per Govt. of India norms.
- 3% of the seats are reserved for Disabled Candidates (physically challenged with disability in one leg or one arm or partially deaf persons).
- The seats shall be filled as per merit list of the physically challenged candidates out of the seats pertaining to the category to which the candidate belongs i.e. General, OBC, SC or ST.
- These candidates would be required to produce a medical certificate from Govt. Medical Officer authorized for the purpose.
Criteria for OBC Reservation:
OBC reservation will be available to non-creamy layer only. For applying to avail reservation under OBC category, the candidates will be required to submit adequate proof/ certificate, issued by the competent authority as may be prescribed from time to time in evidence of his/her not belonging to creamy layer.
- The criteria of creamy layer will be applied as may be prescribed by the Govt. of India (http://ncbc.nic.in/backward-classes/index.html, http://ncbc.nic.in/html/creamylayer.html). The above proof/ certificate should pertain to the current financial year and certificate for the same should be issued after March 31 of the current year. The certificate should be in the format specified in the brochure
- Age: Those born on or after 1st August 1998 (1st August 1995 in case of SC/ST candidates) are eligible to apply (this applies for admissions in 2017, please extrapolate for the current year).

ENTRANCE EXAMINATION PATTERN
The ISTC entrance examination will consist of objective multiple choice questions. 25% of the allotted marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR ANSWERING THE QUESTION PAPER
- The candidate should write his/her name, roll number, etc and append signatures only at the appropriate space provided in the question booklet and answer sheet. Signatures or any other marking should not be made at any other place inside the question booklet or answer sheet.
- No page from the question booklet is to be detached or torn. Non-compliance with this instruction may lead to disqualification.
- 7.3 Each question will be followed by multiple answer choices in the question paper given at 1, 2, 3, 4, etc. Choose the correct answer and fill the appropriate oval/circle with Ball Point Pen (Blue or Black) only on the answer sheet as shown in the example (right side figure). Darken only one oval/circle for each question as there is only one correct answer for each question. If the candidate darkens more than one oval/circle of the same question then answer will be treated as wrong.
- Mark should be dark enough to completely fill the oval/circle so that the letter/number inside the oval/circle is not visible.
- Sample Copy of a typical OMR Sheet is given at the end for familiarisation.
- Use of log tables, slide rules, calculators & Mobile phones etc. is not allowed in the entrance exam.
- Rough work must not be done on the Answer Sheet. Use your test booklet for this purpose
How to Apply for ISTC Exam:
• Application form along with detailed relevant information is available on this website normally by the first week of May.
• Before applying on-line, the candidates are advised to carefully read the instructions given in the Information Brochure.
• The charges for the cost of Application form including examination fee are ₹ 1,200/- for General or OBC Candidates, ₹ 600/- for SC/ST Candidates.
• The fee is to be deposited directly in any branch of State Bank of India into the Power Jyoti Account Number 33004547024 with the help of Fee Deposit Slip downloaded from this website.
• Last date for on-line submission of application form is normally the last day of May of the current year up to 5.00 PM.
• A valid email id & mobile number of the applicant/ parent/ guardian is mandatory for applying and future communication.

Important Points to note down
- Applicants must fill the Registration number on Fee Deposit Slip (ISTC Copy) before sending this to ISTC.
- On successful submission, a Registration number would be generated by the system and it will be sent to your registered mobile number.The applicant should note this Registration number carefully as it would be required for all subsequent purposes such as printing of application form, e-Admit cum Attendance card, all future correspondence etc
- After completing the form as per above instructions, the candidate would be required to press submit button shown at the bottom.
- A soft copy of applicant’s photograph having size 80 to 100 KB and sign having 10 to 20 KB must be ready before applying online for uploading his/her image and sign on the application form.
- After going through the above instructions and having got Journal Number issued by SBI bank, after depositing the fee as mentioned above, the candidate may proceed to complete the online application submission.
(i) A print out of the submitted application form with a recent (not older than three months) passport size colour photograph (Size 3.5 cm x 4.5 cm) affixed at appropriate place duly attested by a gazetted officer or principal of school/ college along with the Fee Deposit Slip (ISTC Copy) should reach The Principal, Indo-Swiss Training Centre, CSIO, Sector-30C, Chandigarh- 160 030 on or before the date specified in the brochure.
(ii) All relevant certificates in original must be submitted at the time of counseling.
(iii) Applicant must put his left-hand thumb impression at the appropriate place in the printed application form.
- Printing of e-admit card cum Attendance Card from this website is allowed only after receiving the downloaded printed application form.
- Attested photographs of the applicant (Identical with those pasted on application form) must be posted at appropriate space in the Admit Card cum Attendance Card.
- Candidate will not be allowed to enter the examination hall without e-Admit Card cum Attendance Card.
- Admit Card must be preserved after the examination. The selected candidates are required to present the same at the time of admission/ counseling to the Training Centre.
- If a candidate has problems in the submission of online application form, he/she may visit CSIO-ISTC office.
